Yes, the main web app is a SaaS application (Software as a Service, pronounced "sass") hosted with a cloud service provider, AWS (Amazon Web Services). In this sense, "SaaS," "cloud-based app," and "web app" are interchangeable terms.
Usually, this question is asked to ensure that you as a Simplifya client are entitled to all of the advantages traditionally offered by a cloud-based app. The short answer is that you are, but let's recap the advantages for those that might be unaware:
- Easy access. Users can log into the app using a web browser from anywhere with internet service. You are not tied to specific computers or to an office location.
- Immediate upgrades. Software upgrades are implemented on the web server making them immediately available to all users. You do not need to download the software and run an installation program on your computer or mobile device.
- World-class infrastructure. We use AWS to host our app because it allows us - and our clients by extension - to benefit from Amazon's massive investment in world-class infrastructure. "Infrastructure" refers to servers, networks, power, internet access, building security, backup generators, etc. It means our clients can count on our app being highly secure and available, 24/7/365, even as our user base multiplies.
- Monthly subscription. SaaS applications are synonymous with monthly subscriptions, which means the costs associated with licensing, implementation, and ongoing maintenance are spread out over monthly payments rather than bundled in an annual fee. It means that we as the vendor get a more stable and predictable revenue stream while you as the client get the convenience of a consistent monthly payment.
