The short answer is yes, all Simplifya apps are SaaS applications (Software as a Service, pronounced "sass") hosted with a cloud service provider, AWS (Amazon Web Services). In this sense, "SaaS," "cloud-based app," and "web app" are interchangeable terms.
Usually, this question is asked to ensure that you as a Simplifya client are entitled to all of the advantages traditionally offered by a cloud-based app. The short answer is that you are, but let's recap the advantages for those that might be unaware:
- Easy access. Users can log into the app using a web browser from anywhere with internet service, and that includes mobile browsers on your phone or tablet. You are not tied to specific computers or to an office location.
- Immediate upgrades. Software upgrades are implemented on the web server making them immediately available to all users. You do not need to download the software and run an installation program on your computer.
- World-class infrastructure. We use AWS to host our app because it allows us - and our clients by extension - to benefit from Amazon's massive investment in world-class infrastructure. "Infrastructure" refers to servers, networks, power, internet access, building security, backup generators, etc. It means our clients can count on our app being highly secure and available, 24/7/365, even as our user base multiplies.
In full disclosure, we also have a mobile app for iOS that was developed for a specific use case - conducting audits in locations without internet access. As with all apps in the Apple App Store, updates are made available in the store, then downloaded and installed at the user's convenience. However, the mobile app synchronizes with our compliance platform, Simplifya Protect, automatically and is included at no extra charge.
