License Tracker includes a lot of default fields that you can fill out to track various data points for each license, but we understand that we didn't cover everything you may need to track for each license. Because of this, we built the "Manage License Fields" feature that allows you to create your own fields in License Tracker so you can track all the data points you want for your licenses! Once you add a field, it will appear in the "Add License" and "Edit License" modals. You can even make it a required field to force other users to complete it when adding a new license or editing an existing one.
The "Manage License Fields" feature also allows you to manage the columns that appear on your License Tracker table, but we tackle that in another article.
Adding a New Field to Your Company's License Tracker
To add a new filed to your License Tracker, navigate to the "Manage License Fields" feature in your License Tracker (License Tracker > ellipses icon in top right > "Manage License Fields"). In the modal that opens, click the "+Add Field" button.
Another modal will open where you can enter the details of your new field:
- Field Name: This is the name of your new field. This is a mandatory field for creating a new field.
- Placeholder Text: This is the light gray text that will appear in the field when a user is adding / editing a license. This will help them know what information to enter. This is a mandatory field for creating a new field.
- Help Text: This is the text that will appear below your field in the field when adding/editing a license. This is optional.
- "This is a required field.": Check this box to require users to complete this field when adding a new license or editing an existing license.
Once you've completed the fields, click the "Save" button. The field will now appear in the "Add License" and "Edit License" modals.
Editing / Deleting a Field
To edit or delete a field that you've added, simply go back to the "Manage License Fields" feature (License Tracker > ellipses icon in top right > "Manage License Fields"). In the modal that opens, click on the icon in the "Actions" column next to your custom field. This will reveal options to Edit or Delete your License Field.
Note: only user-created fields can be edited or deleted. The default system fields cannot be edited or deleted.
